Walkin' on Water...

Yesterday, I walked on a frozen lake/pond for the first time in my life. The ice on top was about 10 inches thick! I was a bit nervous at first, but some local students assured me there is nothing to be afraid of. I guess this weekend, one of them took a car on a pond and had some sort of frozen pond rally. Yeah, pretty great! Yesterday morning I woke up and the temperature was -13 and today we warmed up a bit to -6. Yep, it is cold.... :)

Poland!

As promised here are some pictures of our adventure in Poland. We visited Krakow, Poland which is in the south-eastern portion. We had quite the adventure and a lot of memories were made...that is for certain! All in all, it was a nice trip, but it is always nice to be back home in Klaipeda!

The crew minus Kim...who is taking the picture!

A church in the old town square, and another building in the center of the square. The square was HUGE and very beautiful! There will be more town square pictures to come...no worries!

3-Days....

This weekend is Lithuania's Independence Day, so the school has a 3-day weekend! This is going to be great of course, and I am super excited about it. A small group of us have decided that we want to escape the world and travel to a neighboring country. So, in a couple of hours I will be heading in a van to Poland. It should be a great time to relax, rejuvenate, and learn some about the history in this area. We will be visiting Krakow, and a Auschwitz, one of the most famous WWII concentration camps for the Jews. I will be taking some photos, and will post more upon my return. It is nice to live in a place where very cool things are so close by. Until next time -- have a great weekend!

Faithfulness

It would seem that there is a theme of “God’s faithfulness” that is presenting itself as though it were a race car on a track continuing to go around again, and again. Continually this is how God has been at work in my life. He tends to bring things around again, and again, until finally, I realize that it is He who is actually speaking to me.

Eventually, when I realize that God is trying to reach me in the most obvious way possible, I often think about a passage in Psalms. The book talks about the moon, and the stars that are placed in the heavens, and then it finally comes to the point of, “but what is man that you are mindful of him?” Who am I, Lord, that you are mindful of me? The entire universe is in your command and control, and yet, you take an interest in my day to day life. How often do I only think about how God is in my life? Or how God is only paying attention to the details that I often struggle with?

This past semester I realized that God is many things – including faithfulness. This week has been a huge challenge. There were times when my heart sank and I could do nothing else but just cry out to the Lord. On Monday, we had our regular student life staff meeting and something different happened. Our Vice-President shared parts of her life journey with the Lord in a reflection she had written. I was reminded that God is not only faithful in my life, but in the lives of so many others. I listened intently to many voices around the table about God, and where He has been in their life throughout the years. God has and always will be an active part in the lives of people. Sometimes as a Christian I think that God is only faithful in the lives of his “followers”. Yet, the more I have experienced, the more I realize that this is of course not the case. I have come to see that God is faithful in the life of every person; it just looks differently with each one.

Yesterday, I lost a friend to cancer. I thought about God’s faithfulness, and where was it in her situation. It didn’t take long before I realized that the fact that God was with her during the entire process shows me that his faithfulness was there. Knowing that she had the opportunity to know him, and that she chose to know him, proves to me that God was pursuing her, and taking a journey with her as well. Her journey was unique, it looked different, but still, He was faithful. Due to His faithfulness, she is now with the one who loves her most, who pursued her while she was here, and guided her life from the moment she declared that she was truly his. This of course will not take away the sorrow and sadness that many of us now feel. The hurt, anger, and confusion that I know many, including myself are dealing with. Yet in some way, understanding that there is no more pain, no more tears for her brings an odd comfort. He is with her, and she is with Him, and that has been his plan of faithfulness for her life -- and ultimately her reward for faithfulness to Him.

The faithfulness of God is odd, confusing, and still remains an attribute of the Lord I will never overlook. I suppose it is impossible to do so simply because He tends to remind me of it each time I seem to forget that he is really there.

“For great is his love toward us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever. Praise the Lord.” Psalm 117:2

Retreat!

Last November my team took a little retreat to a country cottage...with a Sauna! Yeah, it was pretty fantastic. We had good food, games, team building, and a LOT of fun. Here are some pictures for you all to gaze upon.

Oh, What a BEAUTIFUL Morning!

Today marks my favorite type of mornings! I woke up to a fresh dusting of snow on the ground...the sun blazing brightly, and the cold, crisp air, that just engulfs your lungs as you breathe. Oh what a beautiful Baltic morning! Sigh..and the best thing is that we are supposed to have a repeat tomorrow! :)

The weekend in View

The weekend has arrived and it is packed full. Tomorrow, I will get to take a tour with the student life staff inside the new dorm that is being built on campus! This of course is really exciting for a variety of reasons:

1.) It is new
2.) It will be great to see how it is set up
3.) New things are always exciting

I will try and take some pictures of where the stages are at to share with you all.

Also, a brief assassin update:

I am still alive, and things are going well. The girl that was after me who lives on the fourth floor has now been killed by her assassin. Therefore, the person who is now after me lives on my floor...and people that is dangerous! Hopefully I will survive the weekend....but I will have to be stealth-like.

Keep you posted.....

Assassins Continued...

Well, it is day three in this wild goose chase, and I am still alive and well! My killer has made herself known, and she will be coming after me...hopefully, I will still be able to avoid her for one more day! :) For now, I am living and finishing up the week, but when I am on duty I have to be more visible in the dorm, so I fear that my assassins "life" will be soon doomed.
